The Performance Curators Initiatives Will Hold a Three-Day Symposium at the University of the Philippines, Diliman from September 27-29, 2017

The Performance Curators Initiatives (PCI) will hold its first International Symposia on the Theory and Practice of Performance Curation entitled “Imagining A Curatorial Vision For Performance: A Performance Curation Symposia,” on September 27-29, 2017 at the University of the Philippines, Diliman, with an opening of the “Movement Without Moving: A Dance Installation Project” on September 26, 2017 and site-visit at the Aurora Artist Residency Program and Space (AARPS) in Dingalan, Aurora on September 30-October 1, 2017.

The three-day symposia will gather performance curators practitioners and scholars from all over the world including the Philippines, Japan, Australia and Canada.

The Performance Curators Initiatives Works in Partnership With the Aurora Artist Residency Program and Space

The Performance Curators Initiatives (PCI) works in close partnership with the Aurora Artist Residency Program and Space (AARPS) located in Dingalan, Aurora.

Founded by the same founder of PCI, the Aurora Artist Residency Program and Space is an independent and non-profit residency program and space, focused on initiating discussion on community empowerment and sustainable environment, through culture and the arts. It is a combination of research-based and thematic residency, preferably in collaboration with the local municipality of Dingalan, various sectoral communities, or even non-government organisations in the area.

The residency is located in the quaint property Casita Aurora, Barangay Butas na Bato, Dingalan, Aurora in the cusp of the vast Sierra Madre mountain ranges and the Pacific Ocean; and is open to artist events and programs through reservations and artist residencies via application or invitation, throughout the year. We are working hard at being able to support our artists financially, but as our residency is artist and independently run, we can only presently offer accommodation and research coordination assistance with communities or institutions in the area.

Featured News: Cultural Mapping Trainer’s Training and Research to be Conducted at the Aurora Artist Residency Program and Space from March 25-27, 2017

From March 25-27, 2017, community curator and Art Studies professor, Dr. Cecilia Sta.Maria-Dela Paz will bring her masters class on contexts of curatorial practice (AS 284: Contexts of Curatorial Practice) to Dingalan, Aurora, to conduct a two-day cultural mapping projects consisting of a trainer’s training with the LGU of Dingalan, and a preliminary cultural mapping and research throughout the 11 barangays of Dingalan. The project is aimed at developing community and LGU counter-part cultural mappers and researchers to conduct a solid research base to shape a sound, critical and sustainable cultural program for Dingalan, Aurora.

The project is hosted and coordinated by the Aurora Artist Residency Program and is the first outside/partnership of AARPS with other institutions like the Local Government Unit of Dingalan, Aurora and the Department of Art Studies, University of the Philippines, Diliman.
